In the first year the groundwork is laid for understanding the science through the study of the basic principles which guide classical homoeopathic practice. Materia medica emphasizes the remedies most commonly used in the treatment of acute, emergency and trauma situations, along with their most effective treatment protocols. Also, the most commonly used remedies for chronic constitutional treatment are studied. In the first year the foundation for understanding the remedies is taught, and one learns to perceive how materia medica is interwoven with philosophy.
Subjects covered in class include the study of Hahnemann’s
Organon; Kent’s Lectures on Homoeopathic Philosophy;
Roberts’ Principles and Art of Cure; Close's Genius
of Homoeopathy; history of medical philosophy; Hahnemann's
case analysis model; discussions of causation of mental and
physical imbalances, and differentiation of acute and chronic
disturbances. Presentation and analysis of simple acute imbalances
is included. First year material also covers:
- Materia
Medica, with an emphasis
on learning the homoeopathic remedies through their individualizing,
distinguishing characteristics and relationships.
- Homoeopathic pharmacology,
a general overview.
- Repertory study, including
an introduction to, and familiarity with, the study of the
Repertory-the homoeopathic index of the results of homoeopathic
medicine tests. The Repertory is the precision instrument
of homoeopathy.
